Today, everyone associates cashmere with the famous region of Central Asia. Yet rare are those who know its origin... In the wintry, mountainous regions of China, Mongolia, Tibet..., long-haired goats are the "natural producers" of this fine material. Under their thick, hairy fleece, a thin layer of down, 2 to 4 cm long, is sheered:this is cashmere. Each animal only produces 200 grams of fibres, which, once purified by an artisan combing process, amounts to 100 grams of cashmere. Then the material is carried on yak- or horseback to the Western markets. Making cashmere is a long and difficult process, but its purity and softness certainly make it worth the while.

Our Cashmere is both lighter and warmer: it is thermoregulating. The number of strands used affects the thickness and weight of the cashmere. The higher the gauge (technical term relating to machine work), the finer the cashmere. With its tight weave, it is ideal underneath a suit jacket or blazer. Two-strand cashmere is completely reinforced and non-deformable. Four- and six-strand cashmeres undergo a 17-step treatment that gives them a most exquisite feel and remarkable durability.
